Truck Driver Appreciation Week 2014

We are in the midst of Truck Driver Appreciation Week! I love seeing shippers, consignees, trucking companies, and third party logistics providers (3PLs) take time to show their gratitude for America’s hard working truck drivers. Please make sure you go out of your way this week to thank truck drivers for all that they do, whether you say a few kind words or give a friendly wave while driving. To better recognize the scope of truck drivers and the important work they do, here are some interesting statistics from the American Trucking Association:

• There are 3.5 million truck drivers in the United States
• 70% of America’s freight is moved by truck drivers
• In 2013, truck drivers drove approximately 420 billion miles
• Truck drivers transported close to 9.2 billion pounds of freight

Here is a video of C.H. Robinson employees giving a shout out of appreciation to truck drivers.

C.H. Robinson is always proud to recognize drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week. This September 14-20 will be no exception. All week long, C.H. Robinson employees will be thanking the professional truck drivers they work with for their hard work and dedication. We’ll be showing our appreciation in other ways, too. Drivers will receive a C.H. Robinson lunch tote from one of six consolidation centers across the U.S.—Los Angeles, Portland, Chicago, Laredo, Memphis, and Miami—and through Facebook. Throughout the week, listen for C.H. Robinson ads running on Sirius XM® Satellite Radio channels—Road Dog Trucking and FOX News. Look for two billboards on Interstates 35 and 45 near Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. If you are active on social media—Twitter or Facebook—please give a shout out of thanks to the truck drivers in your life.

Truck Driver Appreciation Week is the perfect time to show your thankfulness for truck drivers, but remember to support them throughout the year. Please share how you are showing your appreciation for truck drivers in the comment section.

The C.H. Robinson Foundation is once again offering Truckload Contract Carrier Scholarships. The program was developed to assist employees of truckload contract carriers and their children who plan to continue their education at an accredited college or vocational school. Applications for the 2015 scholarships will be accepted starting in January. Read more about the program here.
